It is early morning and a cool mist hangs in the aire. The fire crackles in the fireplace and I put the kettle on for the morning's first pot of tea. It would soon be time to gather the eggs and milk the goats. The sun starts to rise and stepping outside, I can see the dew on the roses that gently stretch across the wooden fence. The leaves on the trees sparkle in the early morning lite and the smell of pine and cedar lies heavy in the aire. Life here at our little cottage is simple and peaceful. Soon the silence is broken by the whistle of the tea kettle. As I sit by the fire, sipping my tea, it occurs to me that by learning the art of soapmaking, I could blend the beauty of nature and the pure goodness of the milk my goats provide. It was from this inspiration that The Cottage Bathe was born. The Cottage Bathe is a small, family owned and operated business, located in Idyllwild CA. We live a simple life, doing many things in the traditional way. We homeschool our children, raise our own chickens for eggs, garden, can and bake our own bread. We also raise a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats to provide us with fresh milk daily, not only for soapmaking, but for household use as well.
